Our Story

Our Name

Why Monarch?

Like Immigrants, the Monarch Butterfly’s life, is a story of enormous growth, courage, hope, resilience, and transformation. Monarch Butterfly’s begin life as an egg, then transform into a caterpillar. Once hatched from their cocoons, they transform into butterflies. Later on in their life, the monarch butterfly will have a special job requiring hope, bravery, and resilience: migration. The monarch butterfly resembles the obstacles and challenges Eliana overcame while growing up as an undocumented immigrant and a DREAMER in the United States.

Why Speech and Language?

Early on into her career journey as a Speech-Language Pathologist, Eliana quickly learned about the lack of resources and materials available to support bilingual families and their children’s development. It became evident that being a bilingual therapist was highly needed, but extremely rare to come by. Currently, The American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) reports that there are less then 9% of Speech-Language Pathologist’s (SLP’s) who are recognized as multilingual service providers nation wide (Demographic Profile of ASHA Members Providing Multilingual Services, 2021). Eliana quickly learned to lean in and fully follow her calling, to do what she loved to help others. She had found her niche after learning about the high need to appropriately serve bilingual families. The monarch butterfly resembles the English and Spanish speaking population Eliana feels passionate and dedicated about serving in her community.

Why Institute?

Similar to Eliana's story and that of the Monarch butterflies, families and community members seeking speech and language therapy services in Spanish or English will face many challenges and obstacles along their journey. Speech therapy can be scary, overwhelming, and full of unknowns. With support, hope, and knowledge, you will see the growth and transformation that speech therapy strategies can bring to your child's life. Eliana’s vision for Monarch Speech and Language Institute is for Spanish or English speaking families to have a home base organization where they can feel SUPPORTED, CONFIDENT, EDUCATED, and EMPOWERED to advocate with confidence for the best quality services for their children, no matter the setting.

Monarch Speech and Language Institute, LLC originated from a unique and personal story. Eliana migrated to the United States from Germany with her parents and younger sister in 2002 at 5 years old for the opportunity to live a better quality of life. Raised by Argentine parents with deep Italian roots, Eliana grew up speaking Spanish, German, and Italian. When her family settled in the United States she learned English and fostered friendships with other Spanish speaking children, thus growing her vocabulary and community in both English and Spanish.

Eliana is a first generation immigrant and the first in her family to graduate from college and receive a masters degree in Communication and Sciences Disorders. For these reasons, declaring her major and finding “her calling” was something that did not come easy at first. Eliana knew she wanted to help people, and she knew that wanted to do so while speaking both English and her mother language, Spanish. After many, many college advisory consultations, career tests, and self exploration, it became evident that language had always been a big part of Eliana's life. She finally discovered and fell in love with the fulfilling and abundant career field of Speech and Language Pathology her sophomore year of college. Eliana learned she could hang on to her roots, and use her language skills to help, support, and empower English and Spanish speaking children with communication delays find their unique voice.
